A wax tape device.

I think they have it mislabeled, due to material from tape machines being used in some modifications.

At first I thought it was the framework of a coil winder (or could be modified to perform that task). But based on the threaded rod size, pitch and area, and the obvious side to side travel capability, I think this was originally the supporting framework of a cutting head for a record lathe.

I found it by searching for "unknown" and filtering by "non-functional". 8-)

I'll have to look up wax tape.. I see what you mean about the threaded rod.. seems way over built for the typical record lathes I've seen. Some of the parts look really crude as well.. maybe some kind of prototype or diy cutting device?
