I just recently recorded some static-based HNW related works for a compilation of all tracks by a project I'm killing off at the end of the year, the EHX bass muff added some nice lows back in after the DM (which I scooped a bit) and before the EQ to make it nasty. An octave down + fuzz factory emulation patch on my Zoom B1 also made for some solid grit. Octave downs in general are good as long as you can blend them low enough that the synthy glitches aren't very noticeable and it's just the growly low end.
Even if you took a few years and learned all the chords you'd still have a limited number of options. If you ignore the chords your options are infinite and you can master guitar playing in one day. - David Fair
