Because I am totally lacking in resourcefulness. I am sure there must be some super-obvious generic solution, but I need help finding a power supply for a Peavey Univerb II. According to the device it requires/prefers:

16VAC / 60hZ / 25W


I'm trying to get a supply that is "exact", according to the device itself, but almost no amount of searching yields legible images of old listings with adapters included, and everything that comes up through various keywords is either vague or not identical in value (which may be irrelevant, and which is why I have to ask dumb questions), and without any kind of compatibility chart provided to make us dum-dums feel comfortable (ex: https://peavey.com/165-volt-power-supply-ii/p/03013830 )

After hours or searching, I found one photo of a Peavey UII with a supposedly compliant, though not "true-original" adapter (this is an assumption based on comparing images. I may be wrong, but at least one old listing showed a differently-shaped transformer housing with a Peavey logo inside a white label, though this is all I could make out), model no. "dv-1611a", but I can't seem to find that or an equivalent adapter in an active listing by searching for it.


I found the very slim manual online and it provided nothing useful, assuming I didn't miss anything.

I've ruined at least one pedal using an improper power supply at least I think it's ruined.

No. The radio shack is a DC supply and the Peavey wants an AC supply.

Sometimes you can get away with slipping DC through the AC rectifier, but my hunch is that the Peavey actually has a bit more sophistication going on in the power department and you are correct in wanting to feed it what its spec'd.

You're in luck though, as I too have a Peavey which needs a 16 volt AC supply, so I just found one:

Since this is an educational thread, I will elaborate on how I went about that:

I started by punching "16 volt ac" into me quick search window, and it auto-filled an array of options. I selected "16 volt ac adapter" and launched the search.

That delivered a range of links, one of which was a link to parts-express.com, a company I have a good history with, but alas their listing which describes the exact part and application is sold out: https://www.parts-express.com/16-vac-12 ... --120-1148

But they provide a picture of the part, let's have a look.


Ignoring the model number, I punch the part number into my quick search window and get as far as AC-1611 before various options are presented, and so I launch a search on that.

It returns reference to a Canada Air airplane, so I go ahead and punch the trailing "a" on the part number and the original link is the one that comes up.

Mind you, I have done no deep digging to try and find the cheapest or closest one, just the part itself. Have fun!

Forget "hZ". I'm pretty shocked (no pun intended), I didn't see the ratshit adapter output DC (did I mention I was tired?).

Anyway, I guess finding adapters is actually pretty hard in some cases.

I realize they only spec down to 150 hz, but in looking at the enclosure there I wonder if that's an issue..

A touch pricey, but that seems to be an exotic configuration.

Yes, the metal enclosure and size don't help at all. But for what this model is and does it punches way above it's weight.
Hooked up to 2 ea, 4x12" 16ohm enclosures those 50watts per channel are quite respectable.

And should you ever have one land on your bench at $xx.xx per/hour, add the PITA surcharge.

They probably have a less than helpful robots.txt file embedded in their site software (or you're hinging searches on instrument amplification rather than pro-sound). There's also a slightly more expensive set there, but they spec pretty close and I think the one I linked has a slightly lower resonant frequency.

Compact combo amps are a pain in the ass, I remember working on a different beast a while back, (my mind refuses to remember the name of it) I'm trying to avoid being hired for repairs at all these days. hahaha
