ask anyone what any song "means" and they will give you their interpretation, many of them will not interpret the song as the artist intended, a pitfall of communication, but all of them will "find meaning", even your "nothing - its just horrible noise" is relaying a communication that was made from the work to the listener, the work says "i am horrible!"JLIAT wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:21 amAsk what is means, they would say - xe2x80x9cnothing xe2x80x93 its just horrible noisexe2x80x9d.cultofthesunmachine wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 10:44 am
if you popped into your local coffee shop and jacked in some HNW to the sound system, i fucking guarantee every single person there would find meaning in it, not one person would state "it was meaningless, i felt nothing, i was not moved", at the very least its going to activate your fight or flight mechanism

Well if that's what you think fine. You think everything has meaning anyway so no need to ask.cultofthesunmachine wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:27 amask anyone what any song "means" and they will give you their interpretation, many of them will not interpret the song as the artist intended, a pitfall of communication, but all of them will "find meaning", even your "nothing - its just horrible noise" is relaying a communication that was made from the work to the listener, the work says "i am horrible!"JLIAT wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:21 amAsk what is means, they would say - xe2x80x9cnothing xe2x80x93 its just horrible noisexe2x80x9d.cultofthesunmachine wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 10:44 am

I had a music lecturer once, I was a student, short course, who was fascinated by the images some people had listening to music, as he never had any. Add to that - I think the general description of the HNW being noise, and the general idea of noise not enabling communication or meaning, we will have to differ.
Your use of the word "communication" is also at odds with the general usage, which again its your thing, fine.

everything has meaning, thats how you know it exists, the only thing that has no meaning is Nothing, if you know of something that has no meaning then please briefly describe it
fucking fantastic insight, your educators were dullards
you can think whatever you want, that doesnt change the fact that noise communicates, maybe you dont like it, maybe you dont get it, but its still happening, otherwise you wouldnt have any opinion on the matter

As I said you are using the non standard definition of communication.cultofthesunmachine wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:47 amyou can think whatever you want, that doesnt change the fact that noise communicates, maybe you dont like it, maybe you dont get it, but its still happening, otherwise you wouldnt have any opinion on the matter
I use this and so noise,Communication
Communication (from Latin communicare, meaning "to share") is the act of conveying meanings from one entity or group to another through the use of mutually understood signs, symbols, and semiotic rules.
Dull and simple I know.random fluctuations that obscure or do not contain meaningful data or other information.

these things mean something to you, they are signifiers, just like all words, the objects behind the words dont strictly exist so they are irrelevant to the meaning of the wordsJLIAT wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:55 amThe Universe, Me.cultofthesunmachine wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:47 am everything has meaning, thats how you know it exists, the only thing that has no meaning is Nothing, if you know of something that has no meaning then please briefly describe it
