HNW question
HNW is not something I have dedicated a lot of time to listening.
What is the accepted minimum duration for a HNW? 20 minutes maybe? Or a lot seem to be longer.
I guess too short and you don't get the immersive experience...?
I dunno.

Re: HNW question
Short is ok. Vomir only plays for like 15 min i think? But yeah i guess if it's just a couple of minutes or something it's not much of a 'wall'

Re: HNW question
Drones work best for me when they are around 15 - 20 minutes.

Re: HNW question
have habit of 15 minutes max length on Noise Walls for my own reasons...
unless get really extremely bored...
and have massive amount of 90 minute or 120 minute tapes for wasting....
so not into conforming with "Vomir" requirements for HNW genre

Re: HNW question
Length is super important if you want to do Wall Noise properly. Officially, it breaks down into three main sub-types:
Bricks (Anywhere from a few seconds to just a few minutes, usually not more than 5)
Partitions (Anything that's approx. 10-20 minutes)
Walls (Averaging 30 minutes or more. There's really no limit to how long true walls can be, but it breaks down even further based on overall length from here [i.e., Great Noise Walls, etc.])
It's also important to consider height, depth and elevation of walls, though. Length is only part of the equation!

Re: HNW question
I know of at least one guy who canxe2x80x99t stand walls shorter than 30min. Ixe2x80x99m sure the more diehard HNW people would tend to sympathize.
My thinking is, the appeal of HNW is tuning out and letting the sound overcome you; you start noticing patterns you didnxe2x80x99t notice before, whether intended or psychoacoustic. So it follows reason that youxe2x80x99d want your wall to be at least as long as it takes to start tuning out and noticing those patterns.
Full disclosure: Ixe2x80x99ve put out walls both well under and well over ten minutes, so I donxe2x80x99t always practice what I preach myself.
Ultimately it is entirely up to you: there is no rule that says a piece of music needs to be at least or no more than X minutes, unless youxe2x80x99re working under a certain formatxe2x80x99s limitations.

HNW with a tremolo: Harsh noise fence.
Someone put together a harsh noise flore compilation, recording just the sound of nothing plugged in and amplifying it, kind of like noise lowercase.

Re: HNW question
I fully support and promote what I refer to as xe2x80x9c
Small Wallsxe2x80x9d. If itxe2x80x99s still an unrelenting claustrophobic cavernous wall but short in nature itxe2x80x99s is still an acceptable practice and discipline to me

Re: HNW question
The listening time for HNW is zero. If you are listening to it for some reason, aesthetic, whatever, you miss the point. Missing the point is fine, unless you go watch football for the hot dogs, which i'd say is fine.
Listening time for drones is infinite. Both maker and listener fail in thus. The drone gives infinite difference in infinite sameness.
The Drone represents a spiritual attempt the Wall a materialist denial.
There is ample material out there to back this up. But this ends up as "oh so you know it all"
No I don't, as I said its out there, the rules for soccer or football or chess so you can enjoy your hot dog and appreciate the game maybe. If you just want to enjoy your hot dog fine.
