Re: Noise Memes
I've thought about collecting those as well, though at this point, I just find it hard to justify spending a substantial amount for potentially degraded CDrs.
I did order a Current 93 CDr from 2007 on Discogs recently, though... Hopefully I can make an accurate rip from it.
Ultimately, I buy CD's and CDr's just to rip them and then stare at them on the shelf while playing back the files on my computer, but there is a particularly urgent motivation to archive them where CDr's are concerned. I've thought about collecting a lot of those MP3.com CDr's you can occasionally find for sale (some grossly expensive)... Ultimately, it's the fear of getting a disc that's too far gone that always holds me back from it. I also learned my lesson regarding pre-'94(-ish) PDO CD's. I've only got one bronzed PDO disc that I can rip accurately with EAC using the oink/what.cd/redacted, etc. guidelines for bit-identical rips. I think I actually killed a disc drive trying to rip a bronzed CD over the course of several days, without success.
BUT I DIGEST...

Re: Noise Memes
Well for what its worth the only CDrs I've encountered that wouldn't play had been spray painted. The harshnoise releases were dye sub printed for the disc label.xc2xbe dead wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 6:19 pm I've thought about collecting those as well, though at this point, I just find it hard to justify spending a substantial amount for potentially degraded CDrs.

I have worn out a drive ripping DVDs ... I've gotten many from Netflix that were in terrible shape that still ripped.
I have a disc repair device that can buff out deep scratches so as long as the disc is not cracked it may be recoverable
