Re: Latest acquisitions
Ermmmm I bought some vinyl records from a shop that I know are struggling to pay the bills. They've not posted them out to me yet though. Hopefully soon otherwise my goodwill gesture makes me look like a bit of a fool.

Re: Latest acquisitions
Everything is closed so I havent been able to indulge my book addiction.
I'm doing ok but if this goes on too long ill have to unpack boxes of books I havent seen in a while just to get a fix.

Re: Latest acquisitions
Half Price Books has been having a bunch of sales to try to get people to order online more while their retail stores are closed. You can still order from Amazon, too, though it can take a few weeks depending on whether or not the item is coming from Amazon themselves.
I've ordered a couple since either some new books that I'm interested have come out, or ones that have been on my to-read list have dropped in price. One I got last week was "Cultural Decay Rate" by John David Ebert, which I've had on my wishlist for maybe a couple of years. Not that it's an expensive book, but I saw a copy go for ~30% what it's normally listed as and had to jump on it. (Though, the book itself makes me sort of wish I was rereading Apocalypse Culture)

Re: Latest acquisitions
I think my latest buuque acquisition was Dead Astronauts by Jeff Vanderblahblah.
Boy! Talk about fucking unreadable. I got about 3-4 pages in before giving up the first time I tried to read it in earnest. Prior to that, I'd only tried to read a random page by moonlight, just to test how well I could do so (it's very difficult, if you don't know). It just so happens that I opened to the first page of what are apparently many chapters of single sentences repeated over and over and over and over and over. If you want to know, I was able to read that one, repeated sentence by moonlight! I checked by turning on the lamp at my bedpost after determining what it said. The moon was BRIGHT that night. Magical stuff!
I am not a big literatt-o, so the only comparison I have to DA is some of the stuff by William Burroughs (EDIT: Well, and Lewis Carroll), which I liked better. And I never finished Interzone, so that is saying something. I got to the last chapter and tried to finish it over several days. I literally (literally) fell asleep mid-read every time I attempted. Couldn't finish it! I will someday, but I have given up for the time being. Interesting read prior to that ejaculatory word salad vomit, though.
I have to admit my reservations about Uncle Bill, though: I can't "dig" his gross, blatant, pedophilic tendencies. I like his writing a lot overall, but... ugh. I cannot say the same for for GInsberg, based solely on (trying) to read Howl. What tedious fucking crap...

Re: Latest acquisitions
I've read some Burrows, I think I can see something to it, poetry, e.g. Howl I think is sometimes best heard rather than read, though I tend to read more non fiction, philosophy. My wife reads fiction, having a few years ago read (ALL!) xc3x80 la recherche du temps perdu, she uses the French, which I guess is the Everest of literature. I also got her the audio, 30+ disks which she plays, I just dont get it! We have both attempted Ulysses, she making it further than I, its like walking into a snow drift... she has also read Virginia Wolf, as I found out had I. I worked in a Petrol (Gas) station, and at night not busy would read, seems I read most of her novels. Though just remember snippets, the frog being crushed... Three Men in Boat is my favourite though, hardly high art.xc2xbe dead wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 8:39 pm I have to admit my reservations about Uncle Bill, though: I can't "dig" his gross, blatant, pedophilic tendencies.
