I saw an artist use a hot knife on glued up blocks of styrofoam that was quite impressive.
Very handy when fitting sheet foam as well. In many cases it is quicker than a razor knife.

The head of the fabric dept of KCAI came to our high school and showed us how to make paper and her massive sculptures made by ppouring paper slurry in a big Styrofoam mold carved out with a heated coat hanger device somebody made for her...was pretty neat even if her art was really ugly

KCAI had a problem imo with encouraging the making of big sculptures as the statement rather than making it look good or being interesting
