I mean like mastering and amenability to mastering, in general
so not just how loud your speakers are.

I was thinking how to quantify good hn ceteris paribus... so from the same (sort of) person with the same (sort of) gear: that the same (sort of) people will like it.timdrage wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 9:02 amWhen it's not a Harsh Wall of Noise.
noise is loads more subjective than music music music, imvho, cos there's nowhere to go but under the bed (where I store my bastard record collection).
true live is probably different: pump it up prince !!

Re: what noise makes you ask "why"
that probably sounds irrelevant: but that only shows that it's subjective.
if the godliness of a record (rather than mastery of gear) was not "just because" but an actual real quality that inhered in your record collection like the sublime beauty of love for God, then yeah that'd be really relevant and stuff. idt noise is just fun, or just pop music, or boring, whatever... but it's just a bring your own fashion, imho.

Re: what noise makes you ask "why"
if music is subjective how do you explain Beethoven: you can't!
noise is not lots of things: that's why I like it! contrary to the received view that it is everything haha

But "music" isn't subjective.. certainly not in reference to Beethoven what is good or bad music is subjective

Re: what noise makes you ask "why"
All art is subjective.
An artist can paint the most fantastic lifelike portrait after years of research and practice into sorting the most realistic colour palette and lighting, the best frame, the best media on which to paint.... but if YOU (or indeed they) have an eye defect then it certainly may not be to your tastes. Or perhaps they hang the picture in a dimly lit room and it looks rubbish.
An orchestra could faithfully recreate Beethoven's 5th after years of practice, but if the perform it in a shipping container and you are listening to the performance from 500m away its not gonna be great.
What am I trying to say?
I am not sure.
