i'll confess i was or am trying to wrangle in my own take. regardless of where the term came from, one of bennets later biggest complaints about noise, and these are complaints that seem often to be echoed by critics more on the pe side of things, is that it seemed to lack content. so i just took the logical leap that maybe after all what was giving the electronics the power was the intensity of the idea more than the sound. but maybe the one would be said to complement the other. or possibly undercut the other. i'm not really decided on where my own views fall on this point.JLIAT wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 7:25 ampickle wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 6:18 amum, i think you're going to have to rephrase the question. but i'll try to answer based on what i think the question is asking. for me the power of power electronics goes to that old knowledge is power nugget. without knowledge, that is to say content, there is no power. there is just electronics. just noise. so call pe more explicitly content driven noise. there are obviously recognizably pe-ish sound elements that have been codified over time but more a product of how how i'd say things happened to work out.JLIAT wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:08 am how much is Power Electronics differentiated from Noise - Harsh Noise by "high frequency squealing sounds, and screamed, distorted, often hateful and offensive lyrics.." which relates it more towards live 'performance' than studio composition, editing etc. such as noise more related to Musique concrxc3xa8te.
(i.e. can the Noise 'label' include both these variations of sound production?)![]()
I cant see the deliberately provocative imagery and lyrics of PE as anything much to do with 'knowledge'.
nor am i saying that the ideas or knowledge or whatever contain even the slightest kernels of power. that would be for the individual listener, or non-listener, to decide. as stated, i am for the moment perfectly content to waffle.
to put it another way, the power so to speak of noise is for me driven in part by its gleeful(?) resistance to being quantified or content-driven. slap some content on there and you may be doing the noise a disservice. not that it would mind.
or put it yet another way- why not? - weakness of idea or content or whatever wrt noise is imo not necessarily a weakness and may be taken as a strength, if one were thataways inclined. weakness of the said wrt pe would i think be taken as weak. and weakness of sound may often work well wrt to well delivered pe content. some pe can be the most basic minimal throb or whatever. but if delivered well it seems often to be received very well indeed.
still i will say. please see the brit project am not. strong content strong sound the one almost unquestionably complementing the other. one of the best projects currently going, in any genre.
