Re: Death Metal Pedal or GTFO
2n5088 transistors...
2n5089 - higher gain than a 2n5088. Work really nice.
2n3904 - about the same, if not less, gain than the 2n5088 (don't quote me)
Those two are probably the most common. I think you can also sub in 2n4401 without any problem.
Others: BC109, BC108, etc.....
hmmm must have just bought some more 2n5088's recently...
BTW BC549C's has higher gain yet different pinouts than 2N5088

Re: Death Metal Pedal or GTFO
I think I've heard someone say that the Amp and Mixer (Amp and Cab sim) outputs are mislabeled on the Digitech version of the DM. Is this true? I have one and I sometimes feel like it's not sounding as brutal as it seems it should.
Even if you took a few years and learned all the chords you'd still have a limited number of options. If you ignore the chords your options are infinite and you can master guitar playing in one day. - David Fair

I thought these two produced the same signal. Maybe it's time for me to get my ears checked. Sometimes, though, if it's not sounding brutal enough, you could be laying the effect on too thickThe Mysterious Creep wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 7:50 pm I think I've heard someone say that the Amp and Mixer (Amp and Cab sim) outputs are mislabeled on the Digitech version of the DM. Re: Death Metal Pedal or GTFO
There is only 1 output on the DOD schematic therefore guessing it is just 2 jacks on same output...The Mysterious Creep wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 7:50 pm I think I've heard someone say that the Amp and Mixer (Amp and Cab sim) outputs are mislabeled on the Digitech version of the DM. Bwahahahhhahhahaaa It's the fucking "grunge pedal with some minor component changes!
same exact PCB...

https://mirosol.kapsi.fi/2013/08/digitech-death-metal/Apparently this one shares a board with modern layout version of the Grunge distortion. These designs may have a lot in common, but it puzzles me how the gain/hi/lo/level setup of the Grunge can be transformed into hi/mid/lo/level. Looking at the Grunge schematic, Death Metal would need a new filter to where the gain control is. This can be achieved with omitting couple of components from the Grunge board xe2x80x93 while adding them to make it Death Metal.
compare the schematics of both:

obviously the "Grunge" pedal was so "despised" & total fail that it was put in new spooky Black/Bloody case & re-branded "DeathMetal"
hmmm honestly never realized that one before then it became painfully obvious soon as looked at both schematic...
Oh wait instantly heavily modded my FX68 Grunge Pedal soon as got it...
DerpDeDerp
paid at very most $20 for original grunge pedal... sort of glad didn't grab a $80+ original deathmetal recently because it looked so "Cool"
presto changeo ta da FX69 became FX86
Grunge pedal was a gigantic flop...
Deathmetal Pedal DDM was big hit...
Swap some components on the same Circuit Board...
Modified Grunge Pedal... became DeathMetal Pedal...
