It's kinda of a thing for people to have all black faceplates to the point where people are manufacturing them independent of the makers of the modules.
Honestly, it's not even about the color so much as it is the rather clunky approximation of an unrelated brand's visual aesthetic, right down to the pseudo-Make Noise, dystopian-future-robot-wildstyle font, that makes it look so goofy. There is definitely appeal in uniformity, even when I find the particular design/aesthetic unattractive to start with *insert sassy wrist-flip emoticon* (I do prefer the plain, utilitarian and retro-futuristic looks of Doepfer and Buchla, respectively. I have to confess to searching for a silver faceplate for the Expert Sleepers Disting Mk4 myself, even. )
But all I can think of when I look at stuff like this is "mid-80's gothyck metal-chyck" crossed with "early-90's Euro-house diva in gold chains and black turtleneck".
This started out as a pithy comment in another thread, but it evolved into a long, rambling rant which belongs here instead:

Didn't half the appeal lie in their affordability, and the fact that they could be swapped around like a form of cheap-gear-currency, which could easily be bartered back and forth in perpetuity? Who the fuck is actually using these for real music to create such a moronic $400 frenzy? I thought pimply, maladjusted adolescents and equally-pimply, maladjusted noisedudez were the only ones interested. There can't really be that many of us out there, right? This whole planet is a fucking circus!
Mostly though, I'm just bitter. I resent, without shame, being pushed out of the now-exclusive territory of being able to afford those much-maligned, "useless", "terrible" and--factually speaking--extremely common DOD pedals I'd actually use for something other than an Instagram post for less than ONE FUCKING HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS, all because people are fucking retarded.
I can't wait for this living-vicariously-through-Instagram-influencers, "I am my possessions and experiences and my spiritual well-being rests on forcing the rest of the world to watch as I gargle my own metaphorical semen" phase, or whatever the fuck this is, in our culture ends and the soulless, undead vampires of joy realize there's no more joy left to suck out of this particular cultural fad/egomaniacal perversion and give it the fuck back.
