Ok, how does one quantify bad HNW?
To me its usually on a tape.
Live its just somebody just standing there not even scary or menacing or funny looking and not near loud or harsh enough.
There is also a generational thing going on.
30 years ago I may have found the idea of HNW more exciting.
yeah I think ten year old me would've loved HNW
product (to be consumed) vs consumer of HNW. same as anything?
Casio C1 with the loop sampler function...I would record a sound and just hold the key down and wlt it go...sort of HNW...or just straight guitar feedback with no variation. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE as loud as possible just because.
But yes I agree. Making HNW can be loads of fun and I've spent probably days of time doing it.
I don't want to discourage people making HNW I just want some that I like and I mean more than just the cover art or creepy titles that I do like.
Maybe its like table top RPGs dungeons & dragons for me. I like the idea and all the gear that goes with it but...just haven't had good experience with it in real life with other people.
Maybe I just need to hang out with VOMIR (who seems like a total hilarious good dude...his shit folk music is amazing).
I don't think for me this threads topic really applies to how I think. It is just me not so much complaining as me airing my personal issues and tastes for and about things.
But subgenres of noise make me ask why and that's why I rail on HNW that I think is just noise but boring(to me) because of its length.
Yes I understand why the length and what real affect it has when listening to it but...there are actual time tested traditional sounds and music that are better at achieving certain states of mind that are more to my liking.
I dunno now I'm confused...why?
