Re: I'm not exactly okay.
I would be extremely surprised, and somewhat terrified to find a tarantula in my house. I would be far less likely to kill it though.

Re: I'm not exactly okay.
I saw him scurry behind my typewriter storage cabinet a couple of times.
So I set the trap that was next to it.
No bait; just put it in his path.
I'd hoped the trap would just kill him, so I wouldn't have to.
His decision; not mine.
But he didn't play my coward's game.
Got his hind leg caught,
Still very much alive.
Fighting frantically to get free. Dragging the trap with him. (it was a light plastic trap) trying to crawl back behind the cabinet but he can't get away because the trap won't make it through the gap.
He oscillates rapidly between trying to run, turning back to gnaw at the trap
trying to run, fighting the trap
retreat; attack...
repeat, entrap..
whatever it takes to live.
I pick up the trap, tentatively, timidly.
He jerks and I drop it. Fear.
He tries to crawl under the cabinet, from the front this time.
But again the trap stops him from escaping.
He's stuck.
I could let him go free; he's just a scared little creature, like me.
A scared little creature that shits in my kitchen, and gnaws holes in my home.
A sad little creature, who begets other little creatures which all do the same.
I pick up the trap, he can't reach around it to bite me.
he dangles below, terrified, squeaking, helpless and hopeless
fighting for his life, as all things do.
fighting to live, but all things must suffer.
and all things must die.
We are no different
I carry him out to an open space by the door.
It's time.
takes only one hit to make him still.
I'm using a different hammer, but maybe it's just my aim, maybe my patience; he can't get away.
I give him another to be sure.
I cooked rice tonight
or at least I tried to;
it burned.
Perhaps I'll try again tomorrow.

Re: I'm not exactly okay.
Yes, I know, though I keep hoping that I've killed the last.
It's a foolish hope; I saw another one a couple of nights ago. Coming from the direction of my bedroom, no less.
And to make matters worse, I found mouse shit in my studio desk today, The desk where I keep all my electronics components and such.
Here's a picture of the "desk":
Basically what you're looking at is a donut rack, the rack used to deliver donuts to convenience stores and such. It fell out the back of a donut truck, so my friends called to tell me about it. I took it, cut it in half, and threw a piece of thick plywood on top to make this (also added some wooden "legs" to one side, to make it even) It was missing several of the plastic trays, so I later bought some of those from ebay or amazon. Really nice for holding lots of small electrical components, but apparently also nice for mice to poop on. Fucking bastards.
This time I put out a non-killing trap, hoping to relocate the little bastard(s) to the woods behind my work, (where they'll likely be eaten by the army of feral cats who live there anyway)

Re: I'm not exactly okay.
Everything is nice for mice to poop on.. although I imagine if these racks had been use that they have deeply embedded donut essence that will perpetually attract rodents.

Re: I'm not exactly okay.
But that would also kill the centipedes, and the spiders that live here. Also it would leave rotting dead mice carcasses, which I am trying to avoid. I'm pretty sure what I really need is bigger spiders.
