Bio

RZRecords, originally known as "ron_zed DIY records" (or simply RZR), was established in Tel-Aviv, late 2002 as an independent, underground record label, but more so, as a spiritual home for a collective of outsider artists, pushing the envelope of art and extreme music.

As strongly DIY non-profit, the label's early releases were mostly of CD-R format, with xerox copied inserts, spray painted art created by the artists themselves, cut-out collages and tons of DIY punk attitude.

Other early artistic endeavors included impromptu public performances, self printed posters, group zines, xeroxed flyers, sticker bombing, lo-fi video art and various types of guerrilla art projects.

Early releases were oriented towards a low-means-maximum-exposure ethics take on genres like noise, free jazz, IDM and ambient, with the label being set up as a respectable front to promote and publish music too underground and too extreme or raw for most audiences.

While the label is currently focusing mainly on online releases or very small batches of vinyl and CD, in the past RZR also released on cassette tapes (both compact and micro), 3.5" floppy disks, and minidisc.

Under the RZRecords umbrella, the collective members and newly joining artists had access to event booking, PR, branding, art, design-to-print services and other types of support required by artists. The artistically creative members also utilized the help of the RZR team to create installations, performances, live broadcasts, etc.

RZR also provided representation and served as an agent for roster artists trying to get festival bookings, shows, exhibitions, art biennials and other endeavors such as re-releases and reprints via other labels, compilation slots, hi-profile collaboration, radio airplay and performances, TV appearances, interviews on various platforms, album reviews, etc.

As of 2020, RZRecords mostly serves as the recording facilitator, distributor and online marketer of current roster artists. In 2023, a series of split releases was initiated, as a way to "bring artists together, spread the word, collaborate and have fun."

The active label personnel are currently scattered between several countries, allowing for a wider international reach, touring and international collaborations.
