Rocket Pony!
feel free to add to the absurdity
Rocket Pony is an abrasive noise band from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Taking their name from the act of injecting crystal meth, Rocket Pony began as a five piece set up in spring 2005 when former Fossils member Jamie Downey came to Mike Higgins, Darcy Atkinson, Kenneth Gibson, and Drew Taylor (of Kisses Give You Powers) with the idea for the project. After having made dozens of hopeless recordings, Jamie Downey left the group because of "creative differences" to peruse his current project Maple Creek Junction. Now with a general direction of where they wanted to take their music, Rocket Pony started to produce some worthwhile tapes making their first self release 'A Great Gusty Fire in the Road' in April 2005, catching the ear of local noise legend David Payne (Offensive Orange, Due East by the Sea, Fossils), who both put out their first label release Terror Tapes vol.6 Rocket Pony/Monster Dudes split, and got them their first show at Fort Steven on May 3, 2006. After playing several shows around Hamilton, and making numerous self releases on cassette and CD-R, Rocket Pony once again lost a member to "creative differences" when Drew Taylor left, getting mainly positive feedback from people who had seen them live before and after the falling out.
Now with a dozen official self releases and hundreds of recordings under their belts, and having played with acts such as To Live and Shave in L.A., People, and DD/MM/YYYY. The group has settled into their musical groove. Kenneth Gibson also has recorded several solo tapes as Zombie Dog, and Darcy Atkinson the same as Autoerotic Asphyxiation.
One notable landmark for the band happened in June 2006 when they broke the unofficial record for noise complaints in one night, while recording 'Willie Was Feeling Very Fine Indeed', having a police officer enter the door way, unable to say anything more than "are you serious?"
On April 12th, 2007, Rocket Pony's Kenneth Gibson used his dark telepathy to murder Kurt Vonnegut, the satirical novelist who captured the absurdity of war and questioned the advances of science in darkly humorous works such as "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Cat's Cradle." Vonnegut was 84 at the time of his murder.
